Pennwest workers back on job after reaching agreement
ALLEGHENY TWP — Workers at Pennwest Homes near Emlenton are back on the job following a strike last week.
Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 2439 declared a work stoppage on March 2 after rejecting an offer from the company.
Members of the union on Monday voted to go back to work following an agreement between the union and the company, according to a statement by union business representative Robert Miller. The union’s negotiating committee and company officials met all day last Thursday and Friday to work on the agreement, details of which were not available.
Workers were seeking better wages, a “reasonable” pension package and the ability to share in the company’s growth, according to a statement.
The company, founded in 2005, builds modular homes. It is owned by the Commodore Corporation of Indiana.
