JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley sophomore Paige Foley was recently selected to compete in the Queen of Diamonds Softball Showcase North at Kent State University Saturday and Sunday.
The fastpitch event attracts athletes from more than 30 states and two Canadian provinces. Only 300 of 2,351 applicants are selected.
Foley was the Raiders’ junior varsity starting shortstop last spring and hit .625. She played shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pride during the summer.
MERCYHURST — Butler County Community College's baskertball teams split a pair of games Thursday night at Mercyhurst Northeast.The Lady Pioneers had only five players, but posted an 80-43 victory. Emily Wise scored 19 points and Casey Fleeger added 13. Karyn Larson had 14 rebounds with Erica Schultheis grabbing 12.The men fell to 0-8 with a 110-77 loss despite 26 points and five rebounds from John Tyler and 25 points from Antawane Davis. Alex McDeavitt added 12 points for the Pioneers with Bill Smith contributing 11 points and six boards.<B></B>

PITTSBURGH — Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger practiced but remains bothered by a sprained left ankle heading into Sunday's wild-card game at Denver.Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said Roethlisberger was “moving around OK, not as good as he was.”
NEW YORK — The Ottawa Senators are assured of having at least four familiar faces on the ice when they host the NHL All-Star game.Defenseman Erik Karlsson led all vote-getters in fan balloting, and captain Daniel Alfredsson and fellow forwards Milan Michalek and Jason Spezza also were elected for the game on Jan. 29.
