Mary Jane Parenti
Mary Jane Parenti, 84, of Grove City passed peacefully Friday at Grove City Medical Center following an illness since January.
Born Oct 6, 1933, in Grove City, to Frank and Jennie Lorenzi Troiano, both immigrants from Italy, she spent many summers on her grandparents' family farm near Greenville, Pa.
She was a 1951 graduate of Grove City High School. Mary Jane was an usherette at the former Lee Theater and Guthrie Theater, both in Grove City. During this time she attended and received a degree from Sharon School of Business.
Following graduation, she was employed by Sturgeon Engineering and later Van Voorhis Accounting Service, both formerly of Grove City.
On Sept. 10, 1955, she married Sylvester K. Parenti, who survives at home.
Mary Jane was a homemaker and enjoyed working as a cake decorator at Grove City Dairy Queen while it was owned by her brother and then her daughter. She retired in 2011 following 24 years of service.
A lifelong member of the Church of The Beloved Disciple, she was very dedicated to her church family. She taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes and First Communion Classes in the 1960s. Mary Jane was the founding chairwoman of the funeral luncheon committee; she organized and helped serve many of them for more than 25 years. Mary Jane also had served on Parish Council, was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, helped sew many Baptismal bibs for children of the church and was a greeter for many years at 8 a.m. Mass on Sundays.
She had been a volunteer with the Red Cross working with the blood drives, which were held at the former North Broad Street church location.
Mary Jane was also a member of the Red Hat Society, Dashing Darlings of the Red Chapeau Chapter in Grove City. She enjoyed many social outings with this very friendly group of women.
In addition to her husband, Sylvester, survivors include three children, Dr. Michael J. Parenti and his wife, Helen, of Girard, Pa., David F. Parenti and his wife, Elaine, of Maryville, Tenn., and Lisa Bablak and her husband, Stephen, of Slippery Rock; three grandchildren, Timothy J. Parenti of Pittsburgh, David M. Parenti of Girard, Pa., and Juliana M. Bablak of Slippery Rock.
Her parents; and her brother, Michael L. Troiano, preceded Mary Jane in death.
PARENTI — Visitation hours for Mary Jane Parenti, who died Friday, June 15, 2018, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, and from 12:30 p.m. Wednesday until the time of a Mass of Christian burial at 1:30 p.m. at the Day Chapel of The Church of The Beloved Disciple, 1310 S. Center St. Ext., Grove City, with the Father Michael Allison as celebrant.Burial will be at Crestview Memorial Park in Grove City.The family requests memorials in her memory be made to the Church of The Beloved Disciple in Grove City.
