Bucs take southpaw with 2nd selection
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates selected left-handed pitcher Anthony Solometo with the 37th pick overall in the MLB Draft Monday.
Solometo, 18, was 5-0 with a 0.21 earned run average, 64 strikeouts and five walks in 32.2 innings as a senior at Bishop Eustace (NJ) Preparatory School this season.
MLB Pipeline rated him the 17th-best prospect in this year’s draft. Baseball America ranked him 28th while Perfect Game tapped Solometo as the third-best left-hander in the draft.
