Suspected drug house raided
A weekend raid by Butler County narcotics officers and Butler police at a suspected drug house in the 200 block of American Avenue landed one person behind bars.
Gregory A. Gilliland, 44, who lives at the house, was arrested Friday night on felony trafficking charges for allegedly selling heroin at the house at the corner of American and Sixth avenues.
County Detective Tim Fennell, who heads the Butler County Drug Task Force, said the house has been under investigation since February for alleged heroin and crack cocaine sales.
He said the property is considered a “nuisance house” due to the walk up and vehicle traffic from suspected drug buyers.
Neighbors have previously complained of drug activity at the house.
As part of the task force investigation, according to court documents, a police informant last month bought four stamp bags of heroin from Gilliland at the home. The $50 deal happened Feb. 1.
Investigators subsequently obtained a search warrant, which was served at the home about 8:15 p.m. Friday. Gilliland and four other suspected customers were there.
Fennell said officers found a “large amount” of drug paraphernalia” including hypodermic needles, drug-cooking spoons, empty stamp bags of suspected heroin and crack pipes.
Gilliland was arraigned on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance. He is being held in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.
The weekend operation comes nearly eight months after the task force arrested Gilliland during a July 31 raid at the same house for suspected drug sales.
