Woman ejected from car in crash

Wreck Thursday morning on I-79

LANCASTER TWP — A Venango County woman was seriously injured Thursday morning in a rollover crash on Interstate 79 southbound in the township, authorities said.

The Polk woman, who is believed to be in her 40s, was ejected from her car.

State police are investigating, but an accident report, including the woman's name, was not immediately available.

She was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital with “traumatic injuries,” said Scott Garing, chief of the Harmony Fire District. Her condition is not known.

Authorities said she was headed to work about 6:45 a.m. when she crashed her Mitsubishi Lancer sedan. The car rolled over and ended in the median on its wheels.

It was not known what caused the wreck. Emergency crews said the weather or road conditions were likely not factors.

Garing said the woman was thrown out of the front passenger side door during the crash. Emergency crews found her laying next to her vehicle.

She was conscious, but in “a lot of pain,” Garing said. Crews believed she suffered a back injury.

A Harmony EMS crew tended to her before she was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for further treatment.

Harmony volunteer firefighters assisted in traffic control. Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane around the crash scene.
