Pirates get lead in 9th
ATLANTA — Following a 50-minute rain delay at Sun TrustField, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Atlanta Braves were involved in a 6-6 tie through eight innings late Wednesday night before Josh Bell homered in the top of the ninth for a 7-6 lead.
The game did not conclude by presstime.
Rookie pitcher Mitch Keller made his second major league start for the Pirates and struggled. He allowed 10 hits and six earned runs in only three innings of relief.
Relief pitchers Clay Holmes, Richard Rodriguez and Francisco Liriano combined for four scoreless innings after Keller’s outing.
The Pirates got to Atlanta starter Mike Sroka for 10 hits in five innings. The teams combined for 25 hits through seven innings.
Kevin Newman led the Pittsburgh offense with a double, two singles and two RBI. Starling Marte had two hits, including his 10th homer of the season.
