Crime expert to speak

SAXONBURG — Retired Lt. Col. David Grossman, a leading expert on aggression and violence, will present a discussion regarding the magnitude of violent crime and the threat to schools on Jan. 6.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cooper Hall, 129 E. Water St. It is sponsored by the borough.

Grossman, a former Army Ranger, has written several books on the subject and has trained health professionals, police, school officials, and first responders after the shootings in Jonesboro, Ark., Springfield, Ore., Littleton, Colo., and the Virginia Tech incident. He is a former psychology professor at West Point.

He will discuss the psychology of mass murder incidents, as well as examine the roles of the media and first responders. In addition, the threat of terrorism will be discussed in relation to the danger it presents to schools and students.

Grossman has presented his findings to more than 20 colleges and universities in North America and Europe and was called as an expert witness and consultant in Timothy McVeigh’s Oklahoma City bombing case and the Paducah school shooting case. He has testified before Congressional committees and his research was been cited by the president in a national address.

The cost to attend is $85 and includes lunch.
