Butler residents can dispose of leaves from their yards at the city’s compost site at Butler Memorial Park throughout April beginning Saturday.

Signs will direct people to the site, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

Leaves must be removed from plastic bags and bags can’t be left at the site. Dumping of brush and garbage is prohibited.

SLIPPERY ROCK — State Rep. Aaron Bernstine, R-10th, will visit Slippery Rock as part of a series of town hall meetings.

Bernstine will conduct the meeting from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Slippery Rock Borough Building, 306 E. Water St.

“One of the most important parts of my job is staying in touch with the people who hired me to be their voice both at home and in Harrisburg,” Bernstine said. “I look forward to talking with people about their concerns, sharing my views and hearing their opinions.”

[naviga:h3]Students to get lessons on saving and spending [/naviga:h3]

GROVE CITY — State Rep. Tedd Nesbit, R-8th, will host a financial literacy seminar April 19 at Grove City High School.

The seminar will be led by an expert from the state Department of Banking and Securities and will focus on spending plans, prioritizing debt, banking basics and understanding credit scores.

“Managing money is difficult, especially for young people whose income is limited even when their bills, expenses and debts are growing,” Nesbit said. “Our next generation must be aware of the basics and become educated in the fundamentals of banking and economics.”

[naviga:h3]Dek hockey registration opens in Butler Township[/naviga:h3]

Registration is open for the spring dek hockey season at the Butler Township dek hockey rink on South Eberhardt Road.

Programs are available for youths, age 4 to 18, according to the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, which is now operating the dek hockey program.

Game nights are: Monday, ages 4 to 6; Tuesday, ages 7 to 10; Tuesday or Wednesday, ages 11 to 14; and Wednesday or Thursday, ages 15 to 18.

The cost for youths is $55 per player and an additional $45 for siblings.

Adult leagues are available at $500 per team, including referee fee.

Games will begin April 28.
