Shirley E. Steele
Shirley E. Steele, 95, of Aspinwall passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday.
Shirley was born and raised in Harvey, N.D., and was the daughter of the late Frank and Una (Levan) Popejoy.
During World War II, Shirley worked as a machinist and specialist at the shipyard in Seattle, Wash.
She participated in the Senior Olympics and had won numerous medals in archery, darts and horseshoes.
She was a retired waitress and enjoyed being with family, writing and traveling the world, but her favorite place was Mount Rainier.
Shirley was a tour director at the Vintage Senior Center in East Liberty and a longtime member of the Community United Methodist Church in Aspinwall.
She is survived by her beloved son, Frank G. (Linda) Steele; her cherished granddaughter, Emily Joy Steele; and her brother, Walford (Mercedes) Popejoy.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Joy Steele; and her sister, Neva Theige.
