JACKSON TWP, Mercer County — State police continue to investigate a rear-end collision that killed a 48-year-old Butler County woman and seriously injured an upstate New York man early this morning.

Kelly A. Tincher of Slippery Rock was pronounced dead at Grove City Medical Center, where she was taken following the crash seconds after midnight on Interstate 79, authorities said.

An autopsy was planned today, said Mercer County Coroner John Libonati.

Police said Tincher was traveling south in the left lane when she was struck from behind by a sport utility vehicle driven by Joshua A. Latona, 33, of Dunkirk, N.Y.

The collision spun the woman's 2010 Mercury Mariner around and onto the median facing west. Latona's 2016 Chevrolet Trax also spun out and crossed the right south lane and onto the median, also facing west.

Superior Ambulance took both drivers to Grove City Medical Center. Latona was later transferred to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh with injuries that police described as “serious.”

His condition was not known this morning.

The crash closed or reduced traffic to one lane, allowing an accident reconstruction team to investigate. The Jackson Center Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Investigators did not say if charges would be filed.
