Lane restrictions on I-79 start Monday, last month

Sixteen miles of lane restrictions on Interstate 79 bridges will affect Butler County motorists for the next month.

According to a news release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, work will be done on three bridges on I-79, between exits 88 and 105.

The work will restrict travel lanes starting at 7 p.m. Sept. 30 and will last, weather permitting, until 3 p.m. Nov. 1.

PennDOT says the work being done on the project — which includes milling, patching and repaving the four-lane interstate, new guiderails and new painting and line delineation — will cost a total of $25.8 million. The release also stated the work is being done by Glen O. Hawbaker of State College.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. The website, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 950 traffic cameras.
