Authorities say drugs, cash seized inside home
BUTLER TWP — Nearly 500 marijuana vapes were among the drugs county narcotics officers allegedly turned up at a township home earlier this month.
But that was nothing compared to the hard cash they allegedly found.
“Most of it was stashed in a cardboard box,” said county Detective Tim Fennell, who heads the Butler County Drug Task Force. “Some if it was in a safe. Some was under a mattress. Some was scattered in drawers. It was all over the place.”
When it was eventually counted, the cash allegedly added up to $87,712.
The home's residents — Nicanor Andrada, 41; his wife, Yolanda C. Andrada, 40; and her son, Gavin J. Hunter, 22 — were arraigned Thursday on felony drug charges.
The charges followed a Sept. 13 task force-led warrant search of their house on East Muntz Avenue.
The search was the culmination of a less-than-one-month investigation, Fennell said.
All three suspects were home when the warrant was executed.
The suspected drugs seized from the home, according to investigators, were 494 THC cartridges, a little more than one pound of marijuana, 10 vials of THC wax and three plastic baggies of hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Additionally, MDMA, also known as ecstasy or molly, and LSD were allegedly found. Those suspected drugs, authorities said, belonged exclusively to Hunter.
Also allegedly seized from the home were digital scales, drug-packaging materials, a large marijuana grow tent, drug test kits and three cell phones. And, of course, the currency.
A 9 mm pistol, registered to Nicanor Andrada, and two magazines were also found in the search, officers said.
“The amount of marijuana, THC cartridges. THC wax and psilocybin mushrooms seized, along with the presence of packing and processing paraphernalia, show that the drug evidence was being processed for sale,” police said in charging documents.
All three suspects turned themselves in Thursday at the office of District Judge Kevin O'Donnell in Butler Township. For the purpose of their arraignment, the trio was represented by attorney Jennifer Popovich of Beaver County.
They are charged with four counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and conspiracy, both felonies, and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hunter also is charged with two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Following the arraignment, the defendants were released on their own recognizance. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for Oct. 24.
“They're looking forward to having their day in court,” Popovich said outside the courtroom.
She would not comment on the charges, but said she was pleased the defendants were given ROR bonds.
“They have been very cooperative, they have a home and jobs,” Popovich said. “They are upstanding members of the community.”
