Scoop's seeking perfection

This is unacceptable.

Even though I went 9-1 last week, my overall record this season is 37-13.

I missed on 14 picks ALL OF LAST YEAR.

Granted, it was a magical season for the ol’ Scoopster, a season that comes along only once in a lifetime, so perhaps I am being a little hard on myself.

All I can do is try to make the best picks that I can for each game and let the chips fall where they may.

On to the picks:

Butler at Norwin — The Golden Tornado had just 27 players dressed last week against Seneca Valley. Yes, 27. For a 6A school.

With those kinds of numbers, the road is a difficult one for Butler and it doesn’t get any easier on the road at Norwin. Norwin 30-12.

North Allegheny at Seneca Valley — The Raiders beat NA in the playoffs last season as a part of their “Revenge Tour.”

Now it’s the Tigers’ turn for revenge. North Allegheny 21-18.

Montour at Knoch — The Knights are the lone undefeated team in the Butler County area and they have done it convincingly.

The defense is staunch. The running game is deadly with Matt Goodlin spearheading it.

Knoch is a difficult team to deal with and Montour will find that out this week. Knoch 25-13.

Shaler at Mars — Teddy Ruffner is a beast.

No other way to describe the Mars running back and what he’s already accomplished this year. He keeps roaring. Mars 33-18.

Freeport at Yough — The Yellowjackets got a much-needed win against struggling Uniontown last week in a game that saw five kick/punt/interception returns for touchdowns.

Freeport will score the old fashioned way this week. Freeport 38-12.

North Catholic at Mount Pleasant — Things won’t be pleasant this week for the Vikings. North Catholic 29-16.

Karns City at St. Marys — The Gremlins are coming off a tough loss to Brookville in double overtime and they travel to face a St. Marys team that is no slouch.

Still, I think Karns City gets it done in a difficult battle. Karns City 25-21.

Brookville at Moniteau — The Raiders have a better passing attack than the actual Raiders in Oakland.

Ian Thrush, Brookville’s dynamic receiver, was nearly unstoppable last week. Brookville 41-16.

Titusville at Slippery Rock — It’s the battle of the Rockets.

The Slippery Rock Rockets are coming off two disappointing losses. The Titusville Rockets stormed out to three wins to start the season.

But Slippery Rock will be the Rockets that fire the most this week. Slippery Rock 39-21.

Union/A-C Valley at Port Allegany — The Falcon Knight bandwagon is getting full.

For good reason. Union/AC Valley 35-8.

Summit Academy at Avonworth — The good teams just keep on coming for Summit. Avonworth 40-12.

Scoop is determined to just lose one more prediction this season.
