MHY Family Services greets visitors
MARS — MHY Family Services is holding its annual Harvest Open House and Car Cruise on Saturday.
“The focus of this event has been to welcome our supporting community to the MHY campus,” said Amy Smith, director of development.
Smith said the open house, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., lets county residents see how MHY has helped children and families over the years.
MHY began in Pittsburgh 140 years ago as the United Presbyterian Orphans Home, according to Smith. It opened a location in Mars in 1929 and has since adapted.
“Throughout the years we have evolved our programs and services,” Smith said. “Now working with children with behavioral health and trauma needs, we know that communication and information for those in our community is important.”
Smith added the open house provides both.
Giveaways, activities for children, hayrides and tours will be available throughout the day. Visitors will be treated to free popcorn, Eat’n Park Smiley cookies and Dave’s Country Meats hot dogs. Other concessions will be available for purchase.
Smith said the open house has grown over the past few years. It has led to deeper relationships with people in the community, some of whom become board members, volunteers and donors.
“It is our goal to provide an opportunity for guests to see the campus up close and learn about our mission and services,” Smith said.
The Rob Shekell Administration Building and Longmore Academy will be open for tours.
An MHY information booth will be open during the day. Volunteers will answer questions or provide follow-ups, if needed.
The MHY main campus is at 521 Route 228. More information can be found at mhyfamilyservices.org under “What’s Happening?”
