Seminar offered for cancer survivors
CRANBERRY TWP — Allegheny Health Network is holding its annual Healing Journey seminar Saturday at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Cranberry.
“It’s a celebration of cancer survivors,” said Lauren Meyer, an AHN administrative assistant who’s in charge of this year’s event.
Meyer is carrying on with the event to remember and honor her mother, who died of ovarian cancer.
“My mom actually started (Healing Journey) 16 years ago,” Meyer said.
The seminar features messages of hope from cancer survivors, which this year includes Irish humorist and two-time cancer survivor Conor Cunneen. Talks will focus on the changing nature of cancer in society by addressing stigmas and offering insight.
Baskets donated by the AHN Cancer Institute and supporters will be raffled during the event.
Healing Journey has a singular goal for cancer survivors, according to Meyer.
“To empower them to talk to their physicians,” Meyer said. “And to also give them a little spring in their step.”
All cancer survivors are welcome to attend the event with a guest. Registration is free, and breakfast and lunch are included. There’s no limit to the number of people who can attend.
“We have a lot of space,” Meyer said.
The seminar is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Call 412-770-1818 by Friday morning to register for the event. Email healingjourney@wpaon.org for more information or to register.
