Fundraiser set for crash victims
A spaghetti dinner planned for Friday night will benefit a couple severely injured in a Route 8 accident earlier this month.
Plates of pasta will be devoured in the name of aiding Jenny and Zach Martin, a couple airlifted from the scene of an accident on Route 8 in Penn Township on Sept. 4. Jenny Martin is a music teacher at Penn Christian Academy. The school is hosting Friday's spaghetti dinner to help raise money for its injured staff member, as both she and her husband are facing mounting medical bills and time out of work.
The dinner will run from 4 to 8 p.m. It's being held in the school's cafeteria. The school's address is 199 Airport Road.
Meals will include pasta, salad, bread, dessert and drinks.
Donations will be accepted at the door. Donated money goes directly to the couple, according to the school's office.
The suggested donation for adults is $10. Children ages 5 through 11 may donate $7.
They're suggesting families of five or more pay $35.
Checks should be made out to Penn Christian Academy, with “Martin” in the subject line.
Jenny Martin teaches students from preschool to seventh grade.
As of Thursday evening, a GoFundMe page for the couple has raised $25,150. Donations can still be made by visiting www.gofundme.com and searching for “Jenny and Zach Martin.”
Police report that the Martin couple was struck by another driver. That driver, police said, admitted to using opioids before the crash.
