Portion of Nashville highway dedicated to late Butler County native Caitlyn Kauffman
A portion of Nashville highway has been dedicated to the late Caitlyn Kaufman, a Butler County native.
Kaufman, 26, a Butler High School graduate, was shot and killed Dec. 4 while driving on Interstate 440, the same highway that now has a one-mile stretch named after her.
At a Monday meeting, the Wilson County Commission in Tennessee unanimously approved a resolution for the naming.
Police said at the time of the shooting, Kaufman was driving to St. Thomas West Hospital, where she worked as a nurse in the intensive care unit. Police said at least six shots were fired at her car with one fatal bullet hit Kaufman in the shoulder.
The homicide case filed against codefendants James Cowan, 28, and Devaunte Hill, 21, was moved in January to a grand jury.
A third person, Dimeneshia Carter, 21, also was charged in relation to the crime.
