Multiple crashes close roads in northern Butler County

State police say the driver of this car was injured in a two-vehicle crash at Route 8 and Hall Road in Brady Township on Thursday. The driver, a 38-year-old Renfrew man, was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries not believed to be serious. The other driver, a 20-year-old Sarver woman, was not injured.

Northern Butler County emergency responders were on the move Thursday due to multiple crashes throughout the day, including an overturned box truck that closed a section of Route 268 for most of the day.

Additionally, two people were injured in separate vehicle wrecks Thursday morning in northern Butler County.

State police are investigating the crashes, but did not immediately release the names of the injured or any of the other motorists.

Around 7:50 a.m. in Parker Township, authorities reported that a Parker woman believed to be in her late 20s lost control of a Hyundai Elantra while westbound on Bruin Road just past Sand Road, crossed over the opposing lane and struck a tree.

The woman was still in the car when emergency crews arrived, but was “conscious and alert” according to Capt. Travis Riesmeyer of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department.

Crews called for a medical helicopter, but it was canceled due to weather conditions. Karns City Regional Ambulance Service subsequently transported the woman to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Authorities described the woman's injuries as “moderate.” Her condition was not available following the wreck.

The car sustained heavy front-end damage and had to be towed.

About 90 minutes after that accident, a 38-year-old Renfrew man was injured when police said he failed to stop at a red light and caused a two-vehicle crash at Route 8 and Hall Road in Brady Township.

He was taken to an unknown hospital with apparent moderate injuries. His condition was not known. The other driver, a 20-year-old Sarver woman, was not injured.

Police said the man was traveling westbound on Hall Road in a car around 9:20 a.m. when he went through the red light, and was struck by an SUV that was traveling south on Route 8. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The Unionville Volunteer Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service assisted at the scene. The car had to be towed.

Within an hour of that crash, another wreck involving an overturned box truck on Route 268 closed the road for more nearly five hours between Parker and Bruin near Bear Creek hill. In that accident, the truck was found to be leaking diesel fuel. First responders called for a hazmat team and the road was closed between Parker Pike and Annisville Road.
