Much has changed since 1949, when watchmaker, Merril Moses, established Moses Jewelers in a small 12-by-15-foot store in Lyndora.

This year, Moses Jewelers celebrates 69 years of service to the jewelry industry. With two brick and mortar locations, Tim and Larry Moses remain committed to overcoming the challenges facing today’s small independent retailers.

The history of Moses Jewelers reveals a family business whose roots run deep, while always remaining forward-thinking.

Larry, Merril’s eldest son and trained watchmaker, joined the business in 1973. Youngest son, Tim, began in 1986. At that time, he and his brother, Tom, were the only two graduate gemologists in Butler County.

While Tom shifted his career focus from retail many years ago, his vast knowledge and expertise still provide new resources, keeping Moses Jewelers on the cutting edge of the gem industry.

From 19 cramped years in Lyndora, 40 years in downtown Butler, the addition of a second store in the Clearview Mall 37 years ago, to the expansion into southern Butler County and the opening of the Seven Fields location in 2008, Moses Jewelers has grown and prospered, adding locations and adapting to trends in the community.
