Eric Klann Sr.

Eric Klann Sr., 82, of Stuart, Fla., formerly of Butler, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021.

Born Feb. 27, 1939, in Serbanovka, Ukraine, he was the son of the late Herbert Klann and Olga (Semke) Klann.

He was a 1957 graduate of Butler High School, served his country as an aircraft mechanic for the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1963, and then worked for Armco Steel in Butler for 40 years.Eric was a loving husband and devoted father known for his fun-loving, gregarious personality and master storytelling (with a tendency to embellish) that endeared him to his many nieces and nephews at large family weddings, graduations, picnics and holiday parties.In his younger years, he played soccer for Steubenville and Harmarville in the Keystone League, and later enjoyed playing golf and hunting with his family. He was the quintessential Pittsburgh sports fan and relished attending his children's and grandchildren's various sporting and cultural activities. He also was an avid reader with an insatiable curiosity for the world around him.He is survived by his wife, Carol, to whom he was married for 49 years; his son, Eric Klann Jr. and wife Amy of New York City; daughter, Kris Carpenter and her husband, Scott of Arlington, Va., and their son, Scott of New Haven, Conn.; son, Gregory Klann, and his wife, Michelle, of Stuart, Fla, their daughter, Emily, of Gainesville, Fla. and sons, Hunter and Xander of Stuart; two sisters, Erma Fontaine and Irene Wood of Butler; five brothers, Bernhard Klann of Butler, Harry Klann of Huntington Beach, Calif., Manfred Klann of Butler, Helmut Klann of Foley, Ala., and Robert Klann of Butler.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three of his brothers, Walter Klann, Erwin Klann, and Gerhard Klann; and his sister, Margaret Ratz.Klann Sr. — In keeping with Eric's wishes, there will be no viewing or service for Eric Klann Sr., who died Tuesday, June 1, 2021.Arrangements are under the direction of Aycock Funeral Home Young & Prill Chapel, in Stuart, Florida.Online condolences may be left at Aycock Funeral Home Young & Prill Chapel.
