2 arrested in city in drug bust

Dozens of bags of suspected heroin, marked “Strike Dead,” allegedly were found in a sock belonging to one of two suspects arrested Monday after the Butler County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a home in Butler.
Heroin, crack allegedly found

Hearings are scheduled next week for a man and woman allegedly caught with a combined 145 stamp bags of suspected heroin, about 10 grams of crack cocaine and more than $1,600 stemming from a drug raid at a Butler home.

Maurice W. Johnson, 36, and Jennifer R. Claypoole, 45, both of Butler, are behind bars, each on a six-figure bond, charged with felony possession after narcotics officers executed a search warrant Monday at Claypoole's home.

Both defendants were found at the home on the 300 block of First Street, according to the Butler County Drug Task Force. Johnson and Claypoole were detained and taken to the Butler police station.

The search at the home turned up 27 stamp bags of suspected heroin and two baggie corners of suspected crack, officers said.

Also seized were several empty stamp bags, two cell phones and $1,365 in currency.At the police station, while being taken out of a patrol car, Johnson was seen allegedly kicking something under the vehicle. Officers retrieved the item, a black sock, authorities said, that contained 74 stamp bags of suspected heroin.Most of the bags in the sock were marked “Strike Dead” with a skull and crossbones symbol, said county Detective Tim Fennell, who heads the task force.Johnson is also accused of trying to pull away from officers as they led him into the station. Authorities said he resisted and officers eventually had to take him to the ground.He was searched and found with a wallet that had $262 in currency. He also had a cell phone.

At the station, a woman officer searched Claypoole and found 44 stamp bags of suspected heroin and 10 baggie corners of suspected crack hidden on her.Johnson was arraigned on felony charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, conspiracy and escape and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest.Claypoole, a two-time drug felon, was arraigned on two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and a felony charge of conspiracy.Johnson and Claypoole are in the Butler County Prison on $125,000 and $100,000 bond, respectively. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled at 10:15 a.m. Nov. 25 before District Judge William Fullerton.Online court records did not list attorneys for the defendants.
