William Shumaker

William H. “Bill” Shumaker passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 4, 2022, at his home in Butler.

Born July 17, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Bill was the son of the late Ira Clinton Shumaker and the late Rita Collins Shumaker.

He grew up in Library, Pa., and graduated from Snowden Township High School in 1964.He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 through 1968.Bill lived in the South Hills of Pittsburgh until 2008, when he moved to Butler, to be closer to immediate family.Bill was employed by Master-Lee Energy Services Corp. for over 30 years, holding a supervisory position in the nuclear power field services. He retired in 2008, and enjoyed woodworking, presenting beautiful furniture pieces, many with inlaid designs, to his family. Whether in his professional or home life, he was meticulous in any task he undertook, and was proud of a job well done.Bill is survived by his brother, Ira R. “Bud” Shumaker of Tionesta; his son, Glenn T. Shumaker of Butler; his daughter, Amy L. (Thomas) Layton of Concord, N.C.; his daughter, Jennifer A. (Charles) Adamo of Butler; four grandchildren, Sarah and Cole Shumaker, and Joshua and Daniel Layton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Shumaker Kling; and his brother, James C.
