Butler man charged following police presence Tuesday on West Brady Street
Charges have been filed related to the large police presence Tuesday evening, Oct. 20, on West Brady Street alleging a Butler man fled a traffic stop and was tracked to a home in the area, according to Butler police.
Zachary Michael Canavan, 34, was charged Wednesday, Oct. 21, with misdemeanor counts of fleeing police and false identification to an officer following the incident.
Police said at approximately 3:14 p.m. Tuesday, officers observed a silver Mercedes traveling on West North Street near South Chestnut Street and conducted a traffic stop near West Brady Street. Police said the driver identified himself using a fake name.
Officers then instructed Canavan to exit the vehicle, prompting him to flee in his car, police said. Officers lost sight of him near North Washington Street and terminated the pursuit. Police also noted that he failed to stop at a stop sign during the pursuit.
Canavan fled to a home in the area, according to Butler City Police Chief Robert O’Neill. Police later surrounded a home near the intersection of West Brady and North Church streets after identifying him.
“This was not a large-scale event,” O’Neill said.
Canavan’s preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
