Knoch urges students not to bring look-alike weapons to school
Knoch School District’s superintendent is reminding students and their parents not to bring objects that look like weapons to school after a student brought a Nerf gun onto school property.
Superintendent Melissa Grantz shared the reminder in an email to district parents after an incident Thursday, Sept. 17, in which an intermediate school student brought “an orange and yellow Nerf gun” onto school property.
Under district policy, look-alike weapons are not permitted on school property. District administration addressed the incident, Grantz said, and “appropriate action was taken in accordance with district procedures.”
“The district takes all matters involving weapons or look-alike weapons seriously and the safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. Incidents such as this also provide an important opportunity to reinforce with students the need to make appropriate choices about the items they bring to school,” Grantz said in the email.
The district is asking families to remind their children that weapons, look-alike weapons and other inappropriate items should never be brought onto school property. It is also encouraging parents and guardians to be aware of items their children bring to school each day.
