Moniteau volleyball sweeps Karns City; Freeport and Knoch win with ease: Highlights & scores
Sayge Brunst and Emily Matz had double-digit kills to lead Moniteau girls volleyball to a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-22, 25-13) of Karns City on Tuesday in their first meeting with their rivals. Brunst had 11 kills and 13 digs, and Matz added 16 kills, nine digs, two aces and a block. Alyssa Thompson chipped in 10 digs and four kills.
The Gremlins got 16 assists, 10 digs, four aces and four kills from Addison Fox, and Aubrey Fox added eight kills, three digs and a block and ace.
Hempfield Area 3, Butler 0 — Raina Lewandowski had a double-double, but Butler lost by set scores of 25-16, 25-14, 25-19. Lewandowski had 19 kills and 15 digs, while Emerson McGarrah dished out 14 assists and Eva Stutz dug 16 balls.
Knoch 3, Ambridge 1 — Maelan Bajuszik’s nine kills and 13 assists led the Knights (1-2, 1-0 section) to their first win of the season by set scores of 25-11, 25-13, 23-25, 25-19. Olivia Hawk had 36 digs and Emersyn Jones 12.
Freeport 3, Derry 0 — Emily Boylan and Brynleigh Paga each had 12 kills for the Yellowjackets, with Boylan adding four blocks. Lucy Majersky chipped in seven kills. Set scores were 25-21, 25-16, 25-13.
A-C Valley 3, Sharpsville 1 — Jacci Dehart recorded 12 kills and two blocks, and Lexi Altman had six aces and 10 assists. Set scores were 14-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-15.
Slippery Rock 3, Clarion 1 — Savannah Smith and Lyla Runtas had four and three aces, respectively, in a road win by set scores of 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 32-30. Smith added eight kills and Runtas 15 digs, while Lexi Caldwell dished out 23 assists.
Seneca Valley 3, Baldwin — No stats were provided from this game.
Jackson Stewart scored a goal thanks to a Jude Perhacs assist, but it wasn’t enough as Butler fell 2-1 to Taylor Allderdice on the road.
Armstrong 4, Freeport 2 — TJ Clark and Conor Rumbaugh scored in the Yellowjackets’ home loss.
Karns City 0, West Shamokin 0 — Goalie Brock Dittman had six saves in this scoreless tie.
Karns City’s Liam Hobaugh and A-C Valley/Union’s Joe Rapp tied for first with rounds of 34 at Aubrey’s Dubbs Dred Golf Course in the eighth KSAC mega match of the season.
The Gremlins finished in third with 169 strokes, with Keystone winning with a 157. The Falcon Knights (179) tied for sixth, and Moniteau finished eighth (181). Cade Ritzert (39) was the final local golfer to finish inside the top 10.
Butler 175, New Castle 215 — The Tornado (9-2, 5-2 section) shot their season low at Sylvan Heights Golf Club thanks to three golfers scoring under par. Levi McClellan won the day with a 3-under 33, followed by Karsten Lenyk (34) and Eli Snyder (35).
Freeport 196, Leechburg 241 — Gavin Tola carded a match-low 35 to lead the Yellowjackets (8-2, 6-2 section) to a comfortable victory at The Links at Springs Church. Jackson Kane and Trey Schreckengost each had a 39.
District 10, Region 2 mega match — Hudson Vice’s round of 77 tied him for fourth individually and led Slippery Rock to a fourth-place finish with a collectively 319 at Grove City Country Club. Drake Kreutz shot a 79 for seventh, and Jackson Novak carded an 80 for eighth.
Eliza Lozosky shot a 53 at Conley Golf Club, but Pine-Richland had four golfers score less than 50 to beat Butler 176-236. Lilly Bauer was second for the Tornado (0-7, 0-7 section) with a 54.
North Allegheny 178, Mars 191 — No individual scores were provided.
Lydia Springirth crossed the finish line in 22:42 to lead Slippery Rock’s girls to a 16-43 rout of Greenville. The Rockets swept the top four spots, with Sophia Gearhart finishing in 23:13.
The boys also dominated 23-36, with Zachary Geisner’s 19:35 taking first. Brady Bellis came in fourth, the next Rocket to finish, in 21:42.
Four of five matches went to five sets, but Butler fell to North Hills 5-0 at home. Singles 2 Lindsay Lipp lost 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to Tallulah Atwood, and Singles 3 Noel Ernst dropped a 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 match to Georgia Krogmann.
