More than 1,000 Butler County residents are without power Friday morning, Sept. 4, after severe thunderstorms battered the area the previous night.

First Energy Corporation reported 548 customers in the county without power Friday morning, according to its outage map. The majority of which are in Winfield Township with 169 customers out as of 8 a.m.

The company also reported 88 outages in Buffalo Township, 81 in Oakland Township, 78 in Middlesex Township, 51 in Allegheny Township, 27 in Franklin Township and 20 in Slippery Rock Township.

Fewer than 20 outages were recorded in Brady, Butler, Center, Cherry, Cranberry, Muddy Creek, Jackson, Parker, Summit and Venango townships, in the boroughs of East Butler, Saxonburg and Slippery Rock and the city of Butler.

The company reports most outages are weather-related. Stations are preparing for dispatch or crew assignment in most cases, but there is no estimate of restoration time.

Central Electric Cooperative reported 12 active outages Friday morning over its coverage area, but 459 homes were affected by weather-related outages overnight in the northeastern region of the county, according to its outage map.

The primary area of outages encompassed Allegheny, Parker, Venango and Washington townships and the boroughs of Bruin and Eau Claire.

The company also reported four outages in the area of Clinton and Middlesex townships, to which crews have been assigned.
