Girl Scout Troop gives Harrisville park a makeover

Girl Scout Troop 20462 dedicated at least 50 hours over the span of four months to cleaning up the entrance to Harrisville Community Park.

According to Sarah Riggenbach, one of the troop leaders and silver project adviser, the mayor of Harrisville proposed the idea in May and Harrisville Borough Council endorsed it.

Riggenbach said the area was showing signs of wear and tear: The welcome sign was worn down and some weeds needed attention.

The girls gathered sponsors and donations before starting the project. Along with the help of adult volunteers, the girls took out a bunch of cinder blocks, put in a retaining wall and landscaped the area with new plants.

The project was approved as a Silver Award project, which is the highest honor a Girl Scout can receive.
