City agrees to purchase, trade in streets equipment
The City of Butler is looking to upgrade some of its streets maintenance equipment and trade in a few older and obsolete pieces.
City council voted unanimously at a forum meeting Thursday evening, Aug. 13, to approve the purchase of a 2025 John Deere 330 P-Tier skid loader, a 2026 John Deere CP24G cold planer and extended warranty at a total cost of $97,191 from Groff Tractor & Equipment.
However, with the trade in of a Caterpillar 924G wheel loader for $15,000; a Case 95XT skid steer loader for $14,000; and an Altec CS40G concrete grinder for $4,000, the total out of pocket cost to the city is $64,191.
City council previously approved a motion for the skid loader in May, but the transaction was modified Thursday to include the trade-ins and the purchase of the cold planer.
“The old tech is getting traded in. The planer from the 1970s won’t work on the 2026. So, we would still have the ability to handle some grinding,” Councilman Troy Douthett said.
He said the equipment will be purchased and traded in as soon as possible.
Also during Thursday’s forum meeting, the next council meeting was rescheduled from Aug. 27 to 7 p.m. Aug. 31.
