The new logo for the Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company, which was officially revealed through social media July 1.

The Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Department is ready for the construction of its new station to begin.

The department is holding a groundbreaking ceremony at 4 p.m. Aug. 28, at 1212 Evans City Road, the site of the new station, according to a Monday, Aug. 10, news release.

The new facilities will improve fire safety, emergency response times, training and community service such as additional apparatus bays, dedicated decontamination areas, enhanced accommodations and expanded equipment storage and training space.

“This groundbreaking represents much more than the start of construction,” said department President Matt McConnell. “It represents an investment in the safety of our firefighters and the protection of everyone who lives, works, and visits our community. This new station will ensure we can continue providing the highest level of emergency service for decades to come.”

The project is funded by a $750,000 capital campaign, grants and other community fundraising.

“This project would not be possible without the tremendous support of our community,” said department Treasurer David Cotington. “Every contribution brings us one step closer to providing our firefighters with the facilities they need to serve safely and effectively.”

Attendees may also view the station’s plans and renderings, learn more about the project and speak with department representatives.

The department was founded in 1935 and has served the area for about 90 years. The station was built in the early 1900s, and an addition was added in the 1950s. Representatives say the current station no longer meets operational needs.
