Slippery Rock University’s Finney Finance Lab to launch

After a $500,000 donation from Slippery Rock University alumni Joe and Pam Finney, the university will launch a new finance lab in the fall. Students in the Haverlack College of Business will be able to use the same financial systems used on Wall Street.

Joe Finney said the gift is his way of giving back and making sure the next generation of students are career-ready.

The lab will feature Bloomberg Terminal workstations that are typically reserved for top-tier business programs, which will allow the university to offer more professional exposure. The terminals are the industry standard for real-time financial data, according to the university.

This addition will give students access to tools used by investment banks, asset managers and corporate finance teams worldwide. The lab will be used for coursework in finance, economics, accounting and business analytics.

Students also will have the opportunity to earn Bloomberg Market Concepts certification and participate in global trading competitions. Beyond coursework, the lab will serve as a community hub for student-led activities, faculty research and career development, the university said.
