Middlesex Police award Miller inaugural Good Citizenship Award
MIDDLESEX TWP — The Middlesex Township Police Department presented its inaugural Good Citizenship Award on June 23 to township resident Rick Miller to honor his actions helping officers solve a criminal investigation.
Earlier this year, township police officers investigated a stolen UTV. The department initially lacked the evidence needed to identify those potentially responsible, according to a news release.
While that investigation was ongoing, the department received an unrelated 911 call from Miller, who believed something “didn’t seem right” and asked the police to check on a situation.
As officers investigated, they found details that did not seem right. Then, what seemed like an isolated incident provided the details officers needed to connect multiple investigations, according to police. Eventually, through an investigation, detectives pieced together the evidence and found a suspect.
“The information this citizen provided turned out to be exactly what we needed,” the department said. “It serves as a reminder that no piece of information is ever too small. What you see or hear may be the one detail that solves a case.”
Police also encouraged residents to call 911 or their police department when something appears suspicious.
The department said it hopes the Good Citizenship Award becomes an annual tradition that recognizes “community members whose actions help make Middlesex Township a safer place to live.”
Legal proceedings in the related case are ongoing.
