Prince Harry claims Buckingham Palace rescinded his invite

Prince Harry is up in arms as he claims his invite to stay at Buckingham Palace during his trip to London this week has been rescinded “at the last moment.”

The palace invited 41-year-old Duke of Sussex, whose relationship with the rest of the royal family has been contentious in recent years, to stay for one night, BBC News and ITV News report..

A representative for Harry, who returned to the U.K. Monday, said in a statement to both ITV and BBC News that though Harry tried to take the palace up on its offer this weekend, Buckingham had “withdrawn” the invite due to security reasons.

“Following RAVEC’s decision not to provide security for his family, the Duke spent last week making alternative security arrangements. Once those arrangements were in place, he was able to formally accept the offer of accommodation for himself over the weekend,” reads the statement.

In May 2025, a U.K. court stripped Harry of royal security, which he said was the final obstacle the family needed to overcome in order to reconcile.

“It is therefore disappointing that the offer has now been withdrawn, with Tuesday’s judgement in the Associated Newspapers Limited case cited as the reason,” the statement continued. “Buckingham Palace has, however, been aware of that judgement since last Thursday. It is therefore unclear why, having formally accepted the accommodation offer, it has now been withdrawn at the last moment.”

The palace countered, telling BBC its decision was due to Harry having taken too long to make a decision on whether he’d stay at a royal residence. Buckingham says the Duke’s camp declined the invite Saturday and quickly doubled back, seeking said accommodation. The palace said that was too late to make such preparations.

Buckingham’s decision reportedly had something to do with wanting to stave off hosting Harry as he delivers what may well be a heated response to a court’s ruling Tuesday in his case against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail.

Harry, Elton John, Baroness Doreen Lawrence, Elizabeth Hurley and more claim that the Mail used unlawful methods to gather information , which Associated Newspapers has decried as “preposterous.”

It was announced late last week that the case’s result would be handed down this Tuesday.

The Daily News has reached out to representatives for the Sussexes and Buckingham Palace.
