Eagle Scout project adds stepping stones to North Country Trail
A Butler teen earned his Eagle Scout rank by helping the North Country Trail through a project that let him give back to his favorite hobby — hiking.
Dominic Cancilla, 16, of Butler, said he contacted the Butler County Chapter North Country Trail Association, which gave him a 2-mile stretch of the trail in the Parker area that needed new stones installed. He gathered some help. Together with a group, Dominic put stones in 11 spots on the trail in late April.
“I (put in) the stepping stones so it’s easy to pass by when it rains,” Cancilla said. “It didn’t cost me too much money. I only had to buy drinks and food. I had eight people here with me.”
Dominic had his board review in early-June, where he relayed information about his project and earned his Eagle Scout rank.
