Beaver County DA seeks public’s help finding gas station shooting suspect
Beaver County District Attorney Nate Bible is asking the public for help finding a wanted suspect in a possibly “random” New Brighton gas station shooting.
Jalen Isaiah Sims, 33, of New Brighton, is wanted by authorities after the incident on June 20. Police said he fled from the gas station by vehicle into Cranberry Township, where he then fled by foot.
Anyone with information about Sims or his whereabouts is encourages to contact Bible or New Brighton Area Police Department with any questions.
“It appears the suspect and victims did not know each other and the shooting was random,” Bible said.
Police said Sims asked a man to drive him around and said he would buy him gasoline. They stopped at the Speedway for gas before the shooting took place.
Sims reportedly then approached a couple and shot at a car at the Speedway on Fifth Street in New Brighton. Police said the bullet hit the vehicle.
Police said couple reported the man got into a vehicle and fled after firing the shot. Using footage from business security cameras, police identified Sims as the front seat passenger in a tan Volkswagen that drove away. Police said Sims threatened to shoot the driver.
At 9 p.m. that evening, Cranberry Township police saw the Volkswagen and reported the driver was in custody, but Sims had fled.
The driver told police he pulled into a church parking lot after the Volkswagen ran out of gas and called 911 when Sims started walking away, but Sims returned and punched him in the face. Sims ran when police arrived.
Sims faces two felony counts each of attempted homicide and aggravated assault, two felony firearms charges, a felony count of theft, two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count each of tampering with evidence and terroristic threats filed by New Brighton police.
Cranberry Township has not filed charges against Sims.
