WORTHINGTON, Armstrong County — People from across the area lined Main Street in the borough to see history roll through the streets during the Farmers and Antique Car Parade Tuesday, June 16.

The parade, part of the Worthington-West Franklin Volunteer Fire Department’s carnival, began with a line of classic cars and trucks. There was a wide variety of models in the parade, ranging from Mustangs and Corvettes to Model Ts.

After the classic cars came through, several farmers came down Main Street in their agricultural vehicles. The vehicles the farmers showed off included antique tractors, lawn mowers and combine harvesters. Along the way, the cars and tractors threw candy to children who lined Main Street to watch the parade.

For Ben Raisley, joining the parade is a way for him to give back to the Worthington community.

“I was a part of the community. We’re still part of the community. We’ve always liked Worthington,” Raisley said.

Meanwhile, Matt Claypoole said he participated in the parade to make his children happy.

“We used to always do it for the kids,” Claypoole said. “They enjoy it, so we do whatever the kids want.”

After the parade ended, several participants and viewers visited the carnival at the fire hall. There, they enjoyed live music from Washboard Tony & Rockin’ Rob, played games and rode rides.

However, for McKinley Wolfe and Ben Raisley, the most exciting part of the carnival was the food. Wolfe said he loved the fried mushrooms the fire department serves, while Raisley said he preferred a classic corn dog.

The classic car and tractor parade is the first of four parades that are part of the Worthington Carnival. Children will get their chance to march down Main Street during the Kiddies Parade on Wednesday. Several area fire departments will roll into Worthington and show off their trucks in the Fireman’s Parade Thursday. Finally, the bike parade will finish the week on Friday.
