Valencia resident and Pine-Richland graduate Levi Wentz signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, one week after being waived by the Seattle Seahawks.

Wentz, a receiver, is a Kansas product who finished fourth in receptions for the Jayhawks last season. He posted 16 grabs for 258 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Wentz originally joined the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent but was released June 8 after the team signed veteran offensive tackle Bobby Hart.

Wentz played one season of high school football at Pine-Richland before heading to Old Dominion on a full scholarship. He transferred to Albany, where he switched to receiver, and then to Kansas.

“I needed to challenge myself, prove to myself that I could play at the highest level available,” Wentz told the Butler Eagle before April’s NFL draft.
