Zelie street project continuing into phase three
ZELIENOPLE — Zelienople Borough Council passed a motion at their meeting Monday, June 8, to pull $100,000 from the Multimodal Transportation Fund for continued Main Street construction.
The work being paid for is part of phase two of the Streetscape project, an ongoing group of projects on the streets of Zelienople to improve the look and walkability of the town.
The withdrawal will be put toward grant reimbursement.
Though the three phase project previously ran into some supply chain obstacles after the COVID-19 pandemic the borough is no longer encountering those issues, according to council member Spencer Matthew.
Phase two of the work is to replace sidewalks, curbs, electrical components and light poles.
“We’re getting back on track to try to finish. We’re going to be getting out phase three,” Borough manager Andrew Spencer said.
As the work has moved up main street, the Four Corners Park project is being looped into the discussion as well. Plans for park revitalization include nature revitalization, a new trail layout and monument renewals.
Extra parking and a concrete patio with seating options were also among ideas for the park.
“With the parks, that’s kind of part of phase three. You can see the park’s right up next to where phase three is,” Spencer said.
