Learn about the making of Lake Arthur and the glacier behind it
Learn about the creation of Lake Arthur at a Grove City Area Historical Society presentation.
The second in the Spring Speaker Series at Grove City Area Historical Society & Museum is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19. The presenter is Polly Shaw, who will discuss how the vision of a seven-mile glacial lake became Lake Arthur. It required careful site evaluation, plus the skillful design and construction of a dam to form the seven-mile lake that is the centerpiece of Pennsylvania’s third largest state park.
She will show photos and documents from the 1960s that reveal how Muddy Creek, Swamp Run, Shannon Run, Big Run and Bear Run were combined to form the lake.
The historical society building, 111 College Avenue in Grove City, is handicap accessible and air conditioned. Light refreshments will be served.
