Mars boys lacrosse, Seneca Valley volleyball advance to WPIAL semifinals: Roundup

Mars boys lacrosse made sure four-goal leads stuck just enough to win 8-7 over No. 6 Bethel Park in the WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinals Thursday.

Reed Fuller recorded a hat trick in the win, and Jack Tirch and Conner Long added two apiece. Grant Weaver dished out two assists, and David Renner stopped eight shots in the cage.

The third-seeded Planets, winners of nine straight district championships, play in Monday’s semifinals at a site and time to be determined.

Boys volleyball

No. 3 Seneca Valley beat Penn-Trafford 3-0 to advance to the WPIAL Class 3A semifinals, where it will face second seed Butler on Monday at a site and time to be determined.

Softball

Moniteau concluded the regular season with a 6-3 home win over Rocky Grove. Halle Beatty tripled twice, scored once and drove in two runs on a 2-for-4 day from the leadoff spot. Lexi McGhee struck out six in a complete-game effort.

Baseball

Karns City closed the regular season with a 7-3 road win over Homer Center. Gremlins pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts, led by Brock Dittman’s five, and Colton Christie went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
