Man charged with theft of rented vehicle in Cranberry Township
A Pittsburgh man is accused of failing to return a vehicle rented from a woman in Cranberry Township.
Steven Michael Jaras, 40, was charged Friday, May 8, by Cranberry Township police with felony theft of leased property and misdemeanor unauthorized vehicle use following an alleged theft reported April 20.
Police said the owner of a black Acura MDX reported she had rented the vehicle to Jaras on April 10, and he had reportedly failed to pay the agreed upon amount or return the vehicle by April 20. It was requested to be returned April 16, police said.
Police deemed the vehicle stolen April 24 and received word two days later it was found near UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Police said the owner is owed $972.04 in restitution for towing, a locksmith and new key for the vehicle.
Jaras’ preliminary hearing has yet to be scheduled.
