Karns City taking precautions following report

State police shared alert on resident’s statements

Karns City Area School District will see increased police presence as precautionary measure after state police alerted the district to statements made by a resident, according to a statement circulating online from district superintendent Eric Ritzert.

According to the statement, state police contacted district school police after a local resident made statements they were “seeing visions” and that a school “may get blown up or shot up” on May 7.

According to the statement, while police do not consider the statements to constitute a credible threat and the individual who made the threats did not make any direct threats toward the district, the district is taking the report seriously.

“As a precautionary measure, PSP will be increasing their presence and coverage around our schools over the next two weeks,” according to Ritzert’s statement. “This is being done out of an abundance of caution and to ensure continued safety and reassurance for our school community.”

Ritzert noted “there is not a threat to any of our schools for May 7th or any other day.”

The statement reminded residents that if they see or hear anything “concerning the safety of our schools, students or staff” to report it to law enforcement, district administration or through the Safe2Say system, www.safe2saypa.org.
