Karns City girls track and field perfect, again: Roundup

Ava Kamenski won two individual events (100-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles) and was part of two relay victories, helping Karns City’s girls track and field team to its fourth consecutive undefeated KSAC season with a 104-44 win over Union/A-C Valley.

Phoebe Brandon and Nicole Huff won three events apiece.

Karns City (boys) 93, Union/A-C Valley 57 — Noah Weiland notched wins in the 1,600 (4:54.0), 800 (2:18.0) and 3,200 (11:04.26) for the Gremlins. Kolby Blair had victories in the shot put (42-0.5) and discus (144-5).

— Seneca Valley’s boys advanced to the WPIAL Class 3A team championship meet by defeating Plum and Kiski Area by identical scores of 86-64.

The Raiders will face Hempfield, Butler and Norwin next Tuesday at West Mifflin High School.

In Class 2A, North Catholic’s boys and girls both advanced from semifinal meets hosted by Shenango High School.

The Trojans and Trojanettes will compete for a district title next Tuesday at Peters Township Middle School.

Girls lacrosse

As Mars trounced Aquinas Academy 22-3, Hailey Long and Katie Blake both had four goals, Anna McGrath three and Lucy Balazs and Ella DePaoli two.

Sewickley Academy 9, Freeport 8 (2OT) — Macey Edwards and Sophia Glass both had four markers for the Yellowjackets.

Baseball

Dante Pelloni banged out three hits, including a double, and pushed three across for Knoch in a 10-3 win over Derry. Mason Heller and Kaden Dreher also had multi-hit outings.

Mars 7, West Allegheny 4 — Carson Fowkes had a home run and five RBIs in the Planets’ home win.

Greenville 7, Moniteau 1 — Dylan Minnear, Carson Minnear and Aidan Shakley had the Warriors’ three hits.

Blackhawk 16, North Catholic 3 — Landon Petok had a home run and Matthew Madonna a double, but it wasn’t enough for the Trojans.

Freeport 8, Yough 4 — Gavin Tola, Kason Barker and Trey Schreckengost had two hits apiece for the Yellowjackets, who remain undefeated.

Flag football

Ava Pulliam had four touchdown passes, including a 65-yarder to Miley Gratton and 50- and 60-yarders to Gemma Fratto, as Mars defeated The Ellis School 26-24. Fratto had a game-sealing 20-yard reception on fourth down to ice the victory.

Mackenzie Powell also had a touchdown grab in the win.

Boys lacrosse

Andrew Ross, Jake Jones, Toby Webb and Gavin Danehy each had two goals, helping Knoch down Winchester Thurston 10-5 on Tuesday. Ethan Kaper and Brayden Knauss also scored for the Knights.

Softball

Alena Tekely notched four hits and Emersyn Jones another three as Knoch downed Deer Lakes 11-9. Jones had a homer, while Tekely had a pair of doubles.

The Knights had 15 total hits.

Armstrong 11, Freeport 0 — The Yellowjackets managed just three hits in the six-inning defeat.

Boys Volleyball

Jacob Proudfoot had three aces and seven kills, Avery Rudolph three aces and 15 assists as Butler beat Moon 3-0, the scores being 25-12, 25-14 and 25-19.

The Golden Tornado (13-3, 5-2 in section play) travel to Deer Lakes on Thursday.

Shaler 3, Mars 0 — The scores of this match were 25-9, 26-6 and 25-10. No further details were provided.

Boys tennis

Seneca Valley dropped a 3-2 decision to Sewickley Academy in the first round of the WPIAL Class 3A team playoffs.

Mars fell to Shady Side Academy by a score of 4-1.
