Sugarcreek Elementary demolition close to completion
Sugarcreek Elementary School is close to being completely demolished.
The Karns City Area School District board approved a bid for abatement and razing of the former Sugarcreek Elementary building in January. According to a board presentation Monday, April 14, the abatement is complete and demolition is about 60% complete.
District officials said the rest of the building should be knocked down within two weeks, when they will bring in a concrete crushing machine.
“Our goal at this time is for the contractor to raze and clean the area of all debris and then prepare the property for planting grass so it can be used for soccer practice,” superintendent Eric Ritzert said.
The demolition was expected to cost $243,000.
The elementary school building was closed at the end of the 2023-24 year and replaced by Karns City Area Elementary School.
