Butler schools hire new custodial services

BUTLER TWP — Butler Area School District will receive help from a local company it already works with to fill janitorial positions the school has struggled to fill in recent years.

The school board approved an agreement with Metz Culinary Management, a company that supplies various maintenance services to schools and other institutions.

Butler Area School District already works with Metz. The company is currently Butler’s food provider for school meals.

Superintendent Brian White said the new agreement with an outside company will not affect any current employees and is only to assist current custodial efforts to keep the school clean.

“We’ve had to deal with staffing abilities, with five or six vacancies,” White said. “So we engaged with Metz to fill those positions. They’ll also do operational control and supervision in our cafeteria as a food service manager. Metz will be providing an on-site person to manage, (and)supervise, as well as bigger support like training people and purchasing recommendations. We were very impressed with their proposal.”

The agreement will last three years.

“At the end of the day, our kids and families all deserve to have clean schools,” White said.
