Zelienople officials are planning to redesign Four Corners Park, an undertaking that would be the most significant overhaul of the landmark in years.

The borough, working in partnership The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 474, Explore Zelie and several private donors, will begin by renovating parts of the Veterans Memorial Park on Main Street sometime this winter.

In addition to reimagining much of the green space, the project’s main goal, Zelienople manager Andrew Spencer said, is to honor the memory and service of all local veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

According to organizers, the work will include a refresh of the memorial layout, the refurbishment of existing monuments and the installation of additional monuments and activity areas.

Spencer said that there’s also a plan in place to take down older trees and replace them with new saplings.

He also noted that residents and visitors should expect construction activity in the area throughout the process.

The effort was made possible through the collaboration with the local American Legion, which is spearheading a commemorative brick campaign to help fund the work.

Residents, families and businesses can purchase engraved bricks to be placed in the central area of the memorial park.

Supporters may choose from three categories, including veterans bricks to honor service members, legion family bricks for posts, squadrons, units or chapters and donor bricks for individuals or businesses who want to support the project.

Organizers said the bricks offer a way for the community to leave a lasting tribute and show support for those who have served.

More information about the project and brick campaign is available on the borough’s website.

Anyone interested in purchasing a brick may do so through The Sons of American Legion website or by emailing Jason Pepe at salsquad474@gmail.com.
