Memorial Park, part of Zelienople’s Four Corners Park, will be increasing its number of recognized wars from five to seven as part of a Main Street revitalization project.

The park will be recognizing the Persian Gulf War and the international War on Terror in addition to the already honored Civil War, World Wars I and II, Korean War and Vietnam War, according to American Legion member Jason Pepe.

The American Legion is spearheading this aspect of the project, according to borough council President Gregg Semel.

The organization will also be increasing the park’s number of veteran memorial bricks from 400 to 2,000. There will be spots for donor and American Legion family bricks.

Council decided to put out bids for Four Corners Park construction at a meeting on Monday, July 28. Park revitalization is projected to begin this fall, Semel said.

Further additions to Memorial Park were alluded to but not discussed.

“We have bigger projects coming later,” borough manager Andrew Spencer said.
