College roundup: Slippery Rock men snap losing streak, women fall in 2OT to Pitt-Johnstown

Slippery Rock men’s basketball ended a four-game losing streak Saturday with an 84-64 PSAC West win over Pitt-Johnstown.

SRU (12-13, 8-9) is currently fourth in the division with three games left; the top six make the conference tournament.

Maceo Austin was dominant with 26 points on 9 of 13 shooting, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists. Jomo Goings was right behind with 25 points, eight boards, four assists and three steals.

Luke Howes added 14 points and Day Waters scored 11.

SRU women close to postseason elimination

Pitt-Johnstown eked out a 69-67 double-overtime victory Saturday over Slippery Rock’s women’s basketball team, ending a 10-game losing streak and pushing The Rock to the brink of playoff elimination.

SRU (7-16, 4-13 PSAC West) are still alive with CLarion having lost to Gannon on Saturday.

Anye Washington tied a career-high with 18 points for The Rock, adding six steals, two rebounds and two assists. Alyssa Gillin scored 11 points and grabbed six boards.
