The Butler County Symphony Orchestra’s concert Saturday, Feb. 8, will be preceded by a presentation at 6:30 p.m. for symphony patrons who arrive early.

The symphony orchestra opens the new year on Feb. 8 with Shostakovich’s “Symphony Number 5 in D Minor,” and Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto in D Major.”

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Butler Intermediate High School’s auditorium. Austin Chanu returns as guest conductor, along with David Kim, the Philadelphia Orchestra’s concertmaster.

Chanu and Kim have worked together over the last several years in Philadelphia and are now bringing their talents to the Butler stage. Kim is a well-known violinist and educator and has served as concertmaster since 1999. He will perform Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto in D Major.”

Chanu is one of three finalists for music director of the Butler County Symphony Orchestra. Austin made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra in April 2023. He is the assistant conductor of the Eastman Philharmonic and Eastman School Symphony Orchestra.

Following presale, available tickets will be sold at the door the night of the concert at $35 for adults, and $12 for children and students.
