Sheriff’s office offers tips to avoid being scammed
Due to the numerous scams occurring in the area, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office issued a reminder to be alert of various scams and provided some tips to help combat them.
The sheriff’s department stressed it will never call and ask residents to pay fines or fees over the phone by any means for any reason.
Residents are reminded to hang up immediately if:
■ A caller lists certain information about you to make you think the call is legitimate.
■ A caller begins to list case numbers and official-sounding language to make you have second thoughts.
■ If you are not sure the call is legitimate.
You can call the office or business they are representing to authenticate information.
You should never provide any financial information over the phone unless you are the one initiating a call to a reputable business.
